The County Government of Mandera County has distributed food assistance to Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) as part of efforts to support vulnerable households during the holy month of Ramadan.
The exercise was carried out by the Department of Special Programs in partnership with devolved units at the Mandera PWDs Resource Centre. The initiative seeks to provide essential food supplies to vulnerable individuals to help them cope with the demands of the fasting period.
Officials noted that persons with disabilities and other vulnerable residents are often left out of many assistance programs despite facing significant social and economic challenges.
According to county officials, the food assistance targets households experiencing economic hardship and food shortages in different parts of the county.
Speaking during the distribution, Chief Officer for Special Programs Fatuma Mohamed said the county government is committed to ensuring that vulnerable members of society receive support.

“The county government does not discriminate when it comes to helping those in need. This program is meant to assist vulnerable groups, including persons with disabilities, during this holy month,” she said.
Fatuma added that the county will continue rolling out food distribution in various centers to reach families in need.
“Our goal is to ensure that vulnerable households are supported so they can observe Ramadan without the additional pressure of food shortages,” she added.
The food distribution exercise was also conducted at Township and Khalalio centres to ensure wider coverage of the assistance program.
One of the beneficiaries, Farah Yussuf, said the exercise was conducted in a transparent and organized manner, allowing vulnerable residents to receive the food rations without difficulty.
Beneficiaries also thanked Mohamed Adan Khalif for supporting vulnerable households across the county.
Residents said the assistance would help many families cope during the fasting period, particularly those struggling with limited income and rising living costs.
County officials said the government will continue implementing social protection programs aimed at assisting vulnerable groups, including persons with disabilities, the elderly, and low-income households across Mandera.
